EPR at a glance
Extended producer responsibility (EPR) makes the business that first places a product on a national market pay for its collection and recycling. For electronics that usually means three schemes at once: packaging, WEEE for the equipment itself, and batteries. Each scheme is national, so the register, the fees and the reporting format differ in every EU country you sell into, and a registration in Germany does nothing for France. Marketplaces in countries such as Germany and France must check that sellers are registered, which is why listings get suspended without warning. Depending on the country and the stream, a seller based outside the EU may have to appoint an authorised representative before it can register at all.
