TL;DR: Marketplaces are legally required to check that sellers hold valid EPR registrations, and to suspend listings that do not. The fix is not an appeal, it is registration. You need a valid number for each applicable waste stream in each country you ship to, entered in the marketplace's compliance portal. From 12 August 2026 the PPWR makes packaging verification an EU-wide marketplace duty, so this gets stricter, not looser.
Why this happened
This is not the marketplace being difficult. Several member states hold marketplaces responsible for verifying that third-party sellers are registered, or make the marketplace assume the obligation itself if the seller is not. Germany has required this for packaging since 2022. France goes further and lets the platform recover the eco-contribution costs it pays on your behalf.
So when your listing goes down, it is because the marketplace could not verify a registration that the law says you should already hold.
What they are actually checking
Three things at once, and sellers usually only have one of them.
• The right waste stream. Packaging, WEEE for electrical and electronic equipment, and batteries are separate registrations with separate numbers. A device with a battery in a box can need all three.
• The right country. Numbers are national. A German LUCID number does nothing for your French listings.
• A number that validates. It has to match the registry record for your legal entity name. Small mismatches in company name are a frequent cause of rejected numbers.
How to get selling again
Work in this order, because registration is the long pole.
1. List every country you ship to and every waste stream your products trigger. That grid is your real obligation list.
2. Check which registrations you already hold and whether the entity name matches exactly.
3. Start the missing registrations now, beginning with the countries carrying the most suspended revenue. Some national registries take weeks or months, so this determines your timeline more than anything else.
4. Enter each number in the marketplace compliance portal as it arrives. Listings generally reinstate once the number validates.
5. Set up the reporting cycle straight away, because a registration you never report against can put you right back where you started.

What you cannot do
You cannot appeal your way out of a missing registration, and you cannot borrow someone else's number. Using a freight forwarder's or a supplier's registration does not transfer the obligation to them. If you are the one placing the goods on the market, the registration has to be in your name.

PPWR applies across the EU from that date, and packaging verification becomes an EU-wide marketplace duty rather than something a handful of countries enforce.
