Check these potential errors before signing your declaration.
The declaration asserts conformity with every act you list. Adding the Low Voltage Directive to a battery product outside its voltage range makes the declaration false. Omitting an act that does apply makes the product non-compliant on documentary grounds, however safe it is.
Identify the precise editions of the standards you used. Check their relevance to your product and applicable legislation, including any restrictions or transition dates in the Official Journal. A standard reference alone does not demonstrate that your product meets it.
A declaration signed in advance and applied to a later product, or issued with no date, fails the formal requirements of Annex III. The date of issue is part of the legal record.
These two are constantly confused and they are not interchangeable. The distinction decides who is legally on the hook.
Issued under the manufacturer's responsibility after the required conformity assessment. Its form and content depend on the applicable legislation. Notified Body involvement is required only where the relevant assessment procedure calls for it.
The meaning depends on the context. A supplier's certificate, a Notified Body certificate and a vehicle Certificate of Conformity serve different purposes. A third-party certificate does not replace a manufacturer declaration where that declaration is legally required.
First identify the legislation and conformity-assessment procedure applying to your product. Prepare the declaration required by that legislation and reference any required Notified Body involvement. Keep supporting evidence in your technical documentation.
